Did better than i expected for Company, and about what i hoped for Property and CLT. So definitely quite pleased.

I'll post more on Ipoh another day.

But for now, Chelsea is on the way to another draw against Birmingham.
The Princess and The Frog

So i caught The Princess and the Frog the other day. Disney movie, so of course i had to watch it. Definitely worth watching, though its not the typical Disney movie.

There's gonna be some spoilers, so if you haven't seen it yet, keep that in mind.

It's rare enough for characters to die in Disney Movie, but invariably they're the bad guys. Or characters that you barely know, like Simba's father. I still can't believe they killed Ray off.

And the message it sends... Most of Disney's work perpetuates the "fairytale ending". The sort that is way too sweet, and too perfect to be true. This one though, seems to be have more cynicism in it.

The show is based in a more realistic setting. No fantasy realm or anything. Just simple old New Orleans. And the show seems to be dripping with a single message: Hard Work gets you nowhere.

Like seriously. The girl Tiana, has hard work as her entire motivation for life. She works hard all the time, and that seems to have done nothing for her dreams. But just, going with her heart a little, in marrying that frog, worked out for her in the end. Definitely a sign that hard work takes a back seat.

Also, back to Ray. In typical Disney fashion, there's a whole "fight" scene, between good and evil, and Ray tries his best. He musters up the courage, to beat back the shadow things. He seems to succeed at first, 1 on what must be dozens, but of course we know that isn't possible.

So he gets knocked to the ground, and gets crushed. The curious thing about that scene, is you really expect something to swoop in and save him. That happens in all Disney shows. Some sort of climax, where a main character is about to succumb, and someone else will swoop in to save the day. But that just... didn't happen.

Disney is definitely trying to send a message here.

Notwithstanding my reading of the movie themes, its still a good show. Definitely worth watching.

I saw two things in Raffles City today.

First, this Fruit Paradise place. Which has desserts that look INCREDIBLE. Didn't take pictures myself, so i'm gonna steal off another blog.

http://www.sgdessert.com/2009/05/first-fruit-paradise-by-manpuku.html

Both stolen from the above mentioned blog. I think it features the Tampines outlet, but the desserts are the same. I need to try that, one day.

Although, its $8+ a slice, and $75 for the entire cake/tart thing.

Man. =(

Secondly, The Handburger. http://www.thehandburger.com/

This burger outlet, also in Raffles City. Which seems just as good! Ahh. I need, to try that one day too.

But i've been basically blowing my money away, the past few days. Which is not a good thing, but at least i'm getting to enjoy nice food. =)

Right away when i got them, i noticed that they seemed to be rather poorly made. Like the material was... very thin, and the stitching seemed poor.

Of the 5 i bought, 2 work fine. The other 3 have odd stitching problems. Like there's a hole in the collar of one, and the bottom is fraying for another. No wonder they call it threadless. They probably don't use enough thread to hold the darned shirts together.

Never going to buy from them again.

And its not as if they were all that cheap. $15-20 SGD each.
So i finally watched Twilight. The one was the vampires. The first one, not New Moon, which i hear is out already.

Honestly it wasn't a bad movie. But it wasn't a great movie either. It was about 2 hours long, and to be honest it went by surprisingly quickly. The pacing was okay, but... it amazingly lacks any real plot.

There's a lot of dramatic moments, and i guess that takes up a lot of time. The girl is pretty, though. But Edward Cullen er... is kinda ugly isn't it? I don't get why people like him. And i can't help but watch the show, and think of Trial Advocacy.

Its now the end of the first week of nothing. Its been very very slack. Something in me now feels like i should have applied for some sort of internship at least. Maybe i should start thinking about where to go in may, after the next semester ends.

And i did not know, that Facebook had an English (Pirate) language option.

Holidays!

Lets see. Holidays have started =) Since Tuesday pretty much.

Most of it has been spent sitting at home, which is quite good actually. It feels nice to just sit around, without having exams hanging over your head. Only the residual curiosity, as to how it went. But i'll cross that bridge when i get to it.

After having put off buying a new computer for about half a year, i've finally done it. Wanted to go to Sim Lim, because its known for being cheaper when you DIY stuff. As luck would have it though, i found myself at Funan yesterday, and checked out the shops? Lo and behold, the price difference was negligible. In the range of $2.

So since i knew what i wanted, i ticked off a checklist for the shop, who will build it for me. I'll be picking it up on Monday. After half a year of laptop, i can't wait for monday to come.

Then once i back stuff up on my desktop, i can reformat my laptop (which is getting sluggish), and get windows 7 in there. Spending money always feels good.

Now that its the holidays, there's a bunch of stuff i wanna do.

I meant to start exercising again today. But it was threatening to rain, so i didn't want to get stuck outside in the rain, so i didn't go. And as luck would have it, it hasn't rained. Its just been dark, cloudy and windy, for about 4 hours now. Such a waste.

I want to watch 2012. I've heard many, many good things about it. Only problem? Finding people to watch with. Bleah.

Man v. Food is such an awesome show. But you get hungry while watching it. SO HUNGRY. Pancakes, with ice cream, and chocolate syrup. Sounds absolutely heavenly.

Just 15 days to go, till the CLT exam now.

Don't really remember any of the CLT materials, so that's quite a bad sign. And at least, class is only 2 hours long tomorrow, not the usually 3 hour marathon. Its quite amazing how boring some lessons are, though nowhere near as bad as Legal Theory was.

The study break of sorts has pretty much started for me, since i don't really have lessons left, apart from the company law last lecture and seminar things.

I feel guilty, for not starting, and yet, i don't quite yet feel in the mood, to start at all. I guess ultimately it doesn't matter. Its really just first class honours, or second. And the former is way way out of reach. So i should just be happy with the latter. Need second class upper to join the Singapore legal service, so i'd need that. I suppose its very doable, without too much effort really.

So i'm back to square one. Waking up between 11am - 1pm every day, playing something or other, or watching something or other for a couple hours, then wondering if i should do work. Yesterday was quite the epic failure.

Oh well.

The lift, a car, and how it goes

The lift. It broke.

I got out of my house, 930am, and stood outside the lift. As i waited, the lift crawled up to the 10th floor where i live, and went past. Then all of a sudden, from the adjacent elevator shaft, the sound of metal bars falling. The lift was being renovated, and out of use. Quite distinctly, i could hear metal bars falling. I bet something screwed up in there, and a whole bunch of raw materials plummeted, 19 floors and then some.

Of course, damage was done. Some sort of power generator was knocked out, and the entire building tripped. Amazingly the lifts worked. But the lights didn't. I guess its a backup generator. So while the floor display was jammed in a permanent 10, the lift descended to my floor, and opened up. But with no lights, its pretty damned scary in there. Foolhardy as i was, i boarded anyway. At least the light has windows now, and it was in the day, so there was sunlight flickering through at ever alternate floor. So i could just count the flashes of light.

I can imagine that would've been much scarier, if it was in the middle of the night.

I'm tired now. Really tired. My leg hurts like hell. I think i'm aging, way too fast. Somehow i sprained my hip, while doing nothing on the weekend. It now hurts ALL THE TIME. It really really does. Its the sort of, really deep pain. Like, it hurts, and it feels like something is wrong. But i can't fix it. Standing up hurts. Sitting down hurts. Even lying down, hurts sometimes. The pain is always there. Sometimes mild enough that i don't notice it. But always there. I can totally imagine how Gregory House feels right now. Wish i was as much of a genius though.

Everything is just, bad right now. School is terrible, and i feel like crap. I wish you knew.
CLT
Today, we got CLT back. I got a C+.

I guess i've only gotten 2 Cs in law school from submitted assignments. First one was the first ever SLS assignment, which i did in such a slipshod fashion i guess i deserved. The other was the first LAWR assignment, which really was the same. Then after that never.

Then now i get a C+, for essentially writing off point. Its particularly upsetting, honestly? Since i guess, i knew my stuff, and just answered wrongly. And to make it worse, i did consider writing the other way at first, to really just focus on the case. Then something possessed me and i decided to be too smart for my own good, and shot myself in the foot. I guess i wouldn't have known, that it would come out like that.

Anyway its not that horrible a grade. C+ is decent. I would've been okay last year, if it was like Legal Theory when i was a total blank, and a 30% assignment came out C+. Its just that for CLT i think i actually put in effort, then to screw up by making such a basic error just makes it feel worse. I guess i would've been happier if i really just, didn't know what i was doing and got that grade. It feels more justified, like its really my "fault". This one is just, being careless? Trying to achieve too much, when i really shouldn't have been.

Sigh. =(

F1 Race

Su-mae had a spare ticket, and asked me along. From some bank or something. Were really good seats, like Turn 1 grandstand? (The $1000+ sort. Quite obscene, i know)

Anyway, its seriously loud there. At first its okay, since all the cars are clustered, and you have a loud bit for a while, then a minute of peace? But eventually the cars are spread out enough that its loud ALL THE TIME. Argh. Kills your ears, which makes earplugs quite essential. I think the race is quite a masterpiece of planning really. All the roads blocked up, the overhead crossings they conjure out of thin air, the barricades, the lights, the safety crews all waiting to go if anything happens. Its quite clockwork.

Either way we ended up walking from Turn 1 (which was at like, near the Singapore Flier), to the padang. Because there was a backstreet boys concert after the race. Haha, so might as well go see right? That was honestly quite interesting. Silly as it is, all of us around this age know the backstreet boys. Were always on the radio and all, and i had two sisters. So, non stop boy-band music. Was actually quite nice when they did their older songs, because everyone would singalong.

Was a total experience. But really bad for your ears. =/

Coffee

It takes me longer to make a cup of coffee, than it does to drink it. I spend like, a couple minutes, boiling the water, throwing the coffee together. Then i chuck it into a cup of ice, give it a minute or two to sit, and even though i intend to drink it slowly, just gobble it down. It takes a fraction of the time to consummate the coffee making process. Feels like such a waste. I should make larger batches, economies of scale and all.

CLT was such a pain. Week long assignment is a bit, too long. Too much time to fret, and do nothing about the impending doom. Then time slowly creeps up on you, and eventually you realise how doomed you really are. I don't feel i wrote it very well at all. But then again, i didn't really know what to say, either.

I actually wanted to say some stuff. Then i logged into livejournal, left the window open for about an hour, and forgot to post. Then now its all gone.

Oh right, lawnet. In the log-in to Lawnet, you have a couple screens to click through. I think the one immediately after you log in, has some terms and all, that you can click "I agree" on. It times out REMARKABLY fast. Seriously. If you don't click it within like, a minute, it tells you the login has expired. I mean seriously. Thats insane. And i tend to like to tab out, and forget about things. Though not for very long, so its quite frustrating for me.

Its my birthday, like tomorrow. Technically tomorrow, since its 12:30am on Thursday now. Feels like so much has changed, since last year. I can actually remember last year. I had SLS on my birthday. It was a nice day, all in all =)

Those were, simpler times.

And its holiday next week. Hallelujah! Much needed. Really really.

Its been a month of School. A relatively tiring month, but hooray. Just a day more, and i'd have survived.

My poor phone however, is another story. I think the keyboard is finally giving way. Its always been a little, unresponsive i guess, and now i've pinpointed it to be the right side. Like the enter key, the i,o, n keys, tend to just, not respond when i press it. Meaning when i type words like "going" it just comes out as "gg". GG indeed.

So this weekend, i'll try to bring it down to HTC, and see if they can fix it. Problems crop up a little bit at a time. I somehow doubt i'm still under warranty. I bought it in July 08, so it should have expired. They in all honestly should extend my warranty though, considering every 3 months i have to send it back for major repairs. Sigh.

At least i have my E63 now. It works decently. A little silly to carry around 2 PDA phones though. I think i might start using the E63 more and more, in preparation for getting a Blackberry next year.

I've been so tired over the past 2 days. Sleeping 12 and 10 hours respectively. The school term is really wearing me out, i think. And i still have work to do now even. Le Sigh.

Last night i dreamt that i bought a Blackberry. It was red for some reason. Dream aside, i do want a Blackberry, which thought good for me, would be terrible for my finances. I'm probably going to go down to Starhub one day, get the student mobile plan. Its unlimited sms, for the same price as what i got now. 500 sms really doesn't cut it, since i do an awful lot more messaging nowadays.

And for some stupid reason, Starhub offers like, free facebook, or free usage of msn, on your mobile, but only on selected devices. How stupid. My phone can access and do those things to, but i don't get it free? Whats the real difference between the phones. Muts be some commercial decision, to make people buy new phones.

And i had a Whopper from Burger King today. It was nice. Pickles don't taste THAT bad, i just don't really like the sour-ish taste. But raw or undercooked onions, still taste like all hell. (And they make your breath really weird for a while)

Its been tiring. A lot to read, a lot to do. Comparative Legal Traditions is like Legal Theory, but worse. At the very least we have what in my opinion, is a completely awesome lecturer. At least she's funny. And she can speak French, which is totally *amazing.

The Company Law tutor, is actually okay. She's not particularly jovial, or anything? But she's not mean either. Which is nice, and i guess she probably knows her stuff. Unfortunately i have to actually, present in class next week. =( Means i need to prepare doubly hard. But Company Law isn't SO bad. Its highly statute based though, so its like contract but a little bit worse. I don't like statutes. Which makes me rather thankful that i'm studying the law in a Common Law Jurisdiction, rather than a Civil Law one. Although it might be fun to travel to France, and learn how their legal system works. The Companies Act was nearly 300 pages long, and cost $12 to print and bind. Thanks to weihong, the kind soul who printed.

I have decided to start, monitoring my finances. My pool of money is dwindling, and i'm slowly but surely going bankrupt. Its very painful to watch the thousands digit in your bank statement slowly dip.

Really hope that the Trial Advo class doesn't end up being at a law firm again. That would be the biggest pain in the ass. Seriously.

Honestly not too bad. Went pretty early in the day, largely out of habit. Had Macs for breakfast with wh, then lots of sitting around in a classroom, waiting for lecture. An hour and fourty-five minutes worth of Property Law, which surprisingly wasn't that boring. At least compared to what a complete pain Contract was.

We have an absolute crap load of readings. CLT for example, has huge stacks, for every week. And thats our 4 credit module for the year, which can only mean that Property and Company will be MUCH MUCH WORSE. =(

At least its a new year, and with it, all new hopes and dreams. Which hopefully, don't evaporate into thin air, like my dreams of getting 1st Class Honours.

And I totally have to go watch UP, Public Enemies and G.I.Joe. So many movies, so little time. Or money.
